LOVE KILLS PORN

After sitting through a home-run sermon out of the book of Genesis, yesterday, Rick and I decided to stop at our local grocer and pick up some of their good fried chicken!

Unbeknownst to my husband, who had just been preaching on the sacredness of the body and what it means to be created in the image of God, the woman ahead of us at the cashier was checking out the DVD, “50 Shades Darker.”

This was very sad to me because although I have not seen the movie, there has been a lot of buzz about the theme and lets just say, it is not the sort of romantic movie you would want to be watching with your Valentine come this February 14.

Rick had been chatting with one of the teens that was in line as the rest of us waited for the cashier to find the movie, check it out and as the lady apologized for holding us all up, he turned just in time to say, “No, problem, hope you enjoy the movie!”

Walking to the car with our chicken, I couldn’t help but ask him if he happened to notice exactly which movie she was checking out?!

He and I both have seen the destructive chaos that porn leaves in the lives of those who are ensnared by it and when we compare what people pursue sexually for their own gratification with the amazing and cherished design that God intended for our bodies, we realize that far too many people are being sold a tragic bill of goods.

I recently saw a t-shirt that says: “Porn Kills Love” and I couldn’t agree more.

However, after thinking about it for a while, I am not so willing to let porn win the day.

How about a t-shirt that says “Love Kills Porn”?

Our culture says to fulfill ones passions in whatever way we can get it.

Take it, steal it, abuse people and above all things, look out for one’s personal interests  and desires over anyone else no matter how much damage may result.

Are we not seeing this in a doctor who took what he wanted from a group of Olympic gymnasts for his own self pleasure?

Hasn’t Hollywood blown up with accusations against predators and pedophiles?

Nobody wins with this system, not even the perpetrator who finds that his pursuit for pleasure is a bottomless pit and satisfaction can never be found.

People, there is a better way and God help us to understand it and live it, because it is so very good:

“Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Love never fails; but if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be done away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part; 10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away. 11 When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things. 12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known. 13 But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love.”

Porn may win the day or maybe a moment but it can never hold up under the weight of the powerful and eternal force of sacrificial love that comes from God himself.
