Have you ever instructed your child on something they needed to do, only to be informed that in such and so’s family, they don’t have to do those things?
How did that work for said child?
Not so great I imagine!
It is much the same for the Christian. There is a family that we have been adopted into as children of God, when we respond in faith to believing in Jesus Christ. We are not our own, yet belong to Him and He has plans for us!
Taking a look at Ephesians 2:8,9, I see:
8″ For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
Good works do not earn us salvation because no good works can negate our fallen nature. The sinless Christ did the work for us on the cross and only through Him are we saved.
However, He has created His children for good works and has prepared them ahead of time for us to do!
Since He has laid that out for us, I guess our response should be, and I speak this first and foremost to myself:
“What do you have for me to do today Lord?”
Sounds like a great place to start my morning!
