Battles and wars are the task at hand as Israel moves into the Promised Land.
Joshua 12 tells us that 31 Kings and lands have been taken so far.
Caleb and Joshua are getting old but Caleb is ready to take his piece of the land promised to him. At 85 years old he is still as fit as a fiddle!
Every tribe gets their piece of land and more land is to be conquered.
Except…..the Levites. Because they get the best of all.
“But to the tribe of Levi, Moses had given no inheritance; the Lord, the God of Israel, is their inheritance, as he promised them” Joshua 13:33.
The Levites were entrusted with the sacred things of the Lord. No amount of land could compare to that sacred trust appointed by God.
Just like the Israelites, believers in Jesus Christ have been entrusted with sacred things as well. It was first handed to the apostles and they passed it on to us:
“On the contrary, we speak as those approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please people but God who tests our hearts.” 1 Thessalonians 2:4
No material possessions could possibly compare with being entrusted with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Our inheritance is not tied up in this world, but rather in the one to come.
Easter is all about the resurrection that we as Christians celebrate. It is the celebration of good news! It has been entrusted to us and we cannot keep quiet.
Christians throughout the world gather this Easter day to celebrate the amazing and life transforming work done by God himself on our behalf!
That is not just good news, for the believer, it encompasses our entire identity!
Jesus Christ, our inheritance!
