A characteristic of God that the Bible testifies to as a repeated theme is His power to work miracles.
In Joshua 10, we learn of the events leading to the Israelites overtaking the Amorites.
“On the day the Lord gave the Amorites over to Israel, Joshua said to the Lord in the presence of Israel:
‘Sun, stand still over Gibeon, and you, moon, over the valley of Aijalon.”
So the sun stood still and the moon stopped, till the nation avenged itself on its enemies, as it is written in the book of Jashar.’
The sun stood still in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day.” Joshua 10:12-13
To scoff at this would leave us scoffing at the validity of the events that occurred at the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ.
The historicity of Christ has been proven, the eye witnesses to the events validated beyond just the disciples testimony.
If you are a doubter, check out Josh McDowell and Lee Strobel. Both were atheist scholars who tried in vain to disprove the validity of Christ and ended believing the evidence for His resurrection.
Consider these miraculous events:
“And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.
At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook and the rocks split.
The tombs broke open and the bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. They came out of the tombs, and after Jesus’ resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many people.” Matthew 27:52,53
The centurion and guards saw all of this and exclaimed “, “Surely, he was the Son of God!” Mtt.27:54
These events certainly made believers out of them!
What about us?
The same God who created the heavens and the earth, can make the sun stand still and come in human form only to die and be resurrected to life again, is the same God who can take you and I and give us a new life in Him!
” Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.” John 5:24
